Sleep should be one of the most important parts of an athlete’s winning routine. Without restful, restorative sleep, the body cannot repair itself, memories cannot be consolidated and energy will not be restored to the brain and the body. Getting the recommended amount of sleep can help boost mood, performance and concentration.
Adding SHEEX® Active Comfort sheets to your routine can help improve your sleep and athletic performance. Performance fibers channel moisture and heat away from your body and maintain ideal body temperature for quality sleep. At SHEEX®, we were excited to celebrate the best of the best at the Summer Games as four of our brand ambassadors competed! Tina Charles on Team USA’s Women’s Basketball Team, Patty Mills on Team Australia’s Men’s Basketball Team, Mariajo Uribe on Team Colombia’s Women’s Golf Team and Kelsie Ahbe on Team Canada in the pole vault.
Charles, who also competed on the 2012 Team USA Women’s Basketball Team, was looking forward to meeting other athletes and watching different competitions. She makes sleep a priority and credits it as being pivotal for her on court performance. “What I like most about SHEEX® is that it provides comfort but also caters to the athlete,” Charles said. Former WNBA point guard and SHEEX® Co-Founder and Co-CEO Michelle Brooke-Marciniak knows a little something about the importance of sleep when it comes to athletic performance.
In fact, she was in Rio as the competition heated up and had a one-of-a-kind experience while she was there. “The Olympics are a unique kaleidoscope,” Brooke-Marciniak said. “Whether you were here as a spectator or a participant, you couldn’t help but feel the rich history of the Games through each smile you shared and each fist pumped high above your head in victory.” She added, “Where else would you find over 200 countries, 11,000 athletes and millions of spectators united in a universal language spoken through the competition of sport?”
Attending the Olympics brought back memories for Brooke-Marciniak of competing around the world for USA Basketball. “At a very young age, I was traveling the world and encountering new cultures and competing against so many nations,” she said. “I met people who didn’t look like me or speak like me, but we all spoke the game of basketball. And we spoke the language of competition, all vying to take home a medal and playing for the same pride of country. It is truly a privilege to be an athlete and carry that responsibility to represent your country.”
The connection between sleep and athletic performance is apparent for Olympic and professional athletes alike.
