Don’t let your relationship keep you up at night – literally. Falling asleep at night can be a difficult task on your own, but sharing a bed with your significant other can make it even tougher to settle in for a great night of sleep.

Between different bedtime routines, body temperatures, snoring, twitching or the inevitable tug-of-war over the covers, adapting to your partner's sleep habits can be a challenge at times. SHEEX® is taking a look at some of the most common sleep compatibility issues and some tips for sleeping better than ever with your loved one.

1. You Can’t Compromise On Temperature

If one partner in a relationship thinks Arctic-like temperatures are ideal for sleeping while the other prefers Sahara-like heat, nighttime frustration will undoubtedly occur. To start, picking a temperature in the middle ground between your two preferences can help make a compromise more realistic.

If you’re the type that loves a toasty bedroom, there is always the option of piling on more blankets or wearing heavier pajamas. Additionally, piling on a duvet cover or a comforter can help you find the extra heat you’re looking for, or a thicker fleece blanket can also do the trick.

For hot sleepers that crave the cold, there’s always the option of lying outside of your partners’ covers. However, with bedding like SHEEX® Performance Sheets, the cooling and moisture-wicking qualities allow you to stay under the covers with your significant other while remaining cool. Though they may stack another ten blankets on top, you’ll at least be able to stay under the same sheet together for ample amounts of cuddling.

2. One Of You Prefers The TV On

We don’t want to take sides in your relationship disputes, but if you or your partner are conditioned to falling asleep with a TV on, it’s definitely a habit that should be broken. According to the National Sleep Foundation, dozing off with the TV on can hinder quality sleep, making the late-night TV a disturbance for both you and your partner.

If you or your partner can’t kick the TV habit cold turkey, try adjusting your routine by turning on a fan instead. The fan’s white noise can help fill the void from the lack of TV chatter without the adverse effects of light in the bedroom.

3. Your Partner Flails Or Twitches

If your partner wildly thrashes during the night, you may want to get some distance by using a bigger bed. Either that, or setting up a barrier with blankets or pillows between the two of you can help isolate the jostling sleeper. Just hope that you or your partner won’t take a fist to the face.

4. You Share A Bed With A Blanket Thief

It seems like every relationship has one blanket hog, with one partner somehow collecting all ten blankets on the bed during the course of the night. For the partner that’s shivering next to their cocooned significant other, having a blanket or two that's only wrapped around you can make all the difference. By isolating a blanket or two away from your sheet-hoarding partner, you’ll at least have some cover when they execute their signature tug and roll over move.

5. Your Partner’s Snoring Is Overwhelming

So you’re finally dozing off for the night, only to be awakened by your partner’s chainsaw-like snoring. While your partner should see a doctor for excessive snoring or pauses in breathing, there are smaller countermeasures that can be taken against less intense snoring.

By lining up pillows between you and your partner, you should be able to quiet down some of the snoring and catch some shut-eye. Additionally, white noise machines or fans can help to drown out the snoring with less alarming sound.

Rather than sleeping in separate beds, using some of the tactics above can be great for maintaining the intimacy in your relationship. However, it can take time to adapt to your partner’s sleep cycle and habits, so recognize that finding out how to sleep better with your partner isn’t going to happen overnight. Just be patient with your partner and invest in some ridiculously cozy bedding like SHEEX® Performance Sheets and Pillowcases, and great nights of sleep together are bound to come eventually.
